Old Aberdeen (1977)
This is a personal view of Old Aberdeen High St opened out. The building with the clock is the original Town House (Town Hall). Kings College with the tomb of Bishop Elphinstone (position changed) the founder is on the right. Above it is our house in Orchard St with smoke coming out of the chimney. To the left of that is St Machar's Hall where the girls and I went to Play group. Behind that is the famous Brg o' Balgownie and then St Machar's (Church of Scotland ) Cathedral where we went to church. In the background on the left are new Science buildings and high rise flats reflecting that some things had changed over the centuries. The turrets on the left are the Minarets of Powis Lodge. I'm not sure of the names of the other two buildings but they do represent other frontages in High St. The colours chosen for the granite building stone represent actual colours that give Aberdeen granite it special character.
