Assignments and Grading

How to improve your grades

The final grade for the course is based on:

Contribution to weekly emails: 10%

Assignment 1: 15%

Assignment 2: 25%

Assignment 3: 50%

Weekly emails

These should show evidence of consulting the set readings for the week and of discussion with others in the class or elsewhere. It may indicate how you personally react to the issues being raised. This is a discussion document not a formal essay. A bibliography is not required. The length is not important, but around 500 words or so may be taken as a rough guide.

Assignment 1: 1500 words (Due date 5 July)

EITHER: Evaluate the legacy of John Calvin to Presbyterianism in New Zealand

OR: Evaluate the legacy of some other key figure to be approved by the Tutor.

Assignment 2: 2000 words (Due date 23 August)

EITHER: Discuss the strengths and weaknesses of the theology of the Westminster Confession.

OR: Discuss the strengths and weaknesses of the theology of some other key document as approved by the Tutor.

Assignment 3: 2500 words (Due date 18 October)

Discuss the theological and leadership issues surrounding a critical incident or issue in a congregation known to you.

Please discuss your choice of incident or issue and suitable resources with the Tutor.

Submitting Assignments

Please post a printed copy of each assignment together with a cover sheet to John Roxborogh, PO Box 8124, Gardens, Dunedin 9041. This enables me to mark the assignment and forward it for moderation before it is returned to you.

You may in addition also submit an electronic copy to john@roxborogh.com This is helpful if I am away from home, or if there is some later question and I need to refer back to your work.
