Hoornaert, Eduardo, The memory of the Christian people, B & O, 1989. Orbis, 199?

This is volume five of a large projected series designed to work through the entire spectrum of theology using the insights of Liberation Theology and is an interesting reinterpretation of early church history written by a Belgian Jesuit. In interaction between his Brazilian experience of Base Christian Communities and selected figures and documents of the first three centuries Hoornaert provides a fresh perspective by asking questions about whose interests are served by the memory of the church: those of the power structure or those of the marginalized.

The glossary could usefully include the jargon of liberation theology and some of the terms used in explanation themselves need explaining. It is not that the writing is difficult conceptually, but the vocabulary is likely to send many readers to their dictionaries.
